Statutory redundancy pay calculator
Use this statutory redundancy pay calculator to work out the minimum redundancy pay you are owed by law in Great Britain. Enter your age, your complete years of service and your weekly pay. The result uses the 2026/27 limits and shows every step.
Rules last checked 13 October 2026. Limits apply to redundancies from 6 April 2026.
Use the date your employment ends, which is normally the day your notice period ends.
Count only full years. If your employer pays you instead of notice, the date your employment ends can move forward by the statutory notice period, which can add a year to your service. Enter the figure that includes this if it applies to you.
Your normal pay for a week before tax. Include guaranteed overtime and any contractual bonuses or commission. If you were on family-related leave, use your normal contractual pay, not the reduced pay you received.
Only used for the tax-free check. It does not change your statutory pay.
Enter your age, years of service and weekly pay to see your statutory redundancy pay.
Nothing you enter leaves your device. This is an estimate of the statutory minimum, not legal advice. For help with a redundancy, contact Acas or a legal adviser.
How statutory redundancy pay is worked out
You count your full years of service, working back from the date your employment ends, and only the most recent 20 years count. Each full year earns half a week's pay if you were under 22, one week's pay if you were 22 or older but under 41, and one and a half weeks' pay if you were 41 or older. Your weeks of pay are multiplied by your weekly pay, which is capped at £751 from 6 April 2026.
Acas gives this example: someone aged 45 with 22 years' service on £300 a week gets 4 years at 1.5 weeks and 16 years at 1 week, which is £6,600.
| Your age during the year | Pay for each full year |
|---|---|
| Under 22 | Half a week's pay |
| 22 to 40 | One week's pay |
| 41 and over | One and a half weeks' pay |

A dash means that length of service would have started before age 16, so it is not shown.
Who can get statutory redundancy pay
Employees who have worked for their employer for 2 years or more and who are selected for redundancy normally qualify. Other exclusions apply, such as dismissal for misconduct. Only employees have a right to statutory redundancy pay. Check your contract, because it may offer more.
What counts as a week's pay
If your hours and pay are regular, it is your normal gross weekly pay before tax. If your pay varies, it is your average weekly earnings over the 12 weeks before the day you got your redundancy notice. It includes guaranteed overtime in your contract and any contractual bonuses or commission. If you were on family-related leave, your normal contractual pay is used, not the reduced pay you received.
The redundancy pay cap
| Weekly pay cap | £751 |
|---|---|
| Maximum years counted | 20 |
| Maximum statutory redundancy pay | £22,530 |
| Minimum service | 2 years |
| Tax-free amount | £30,000 (combined with other redundancy pay) |
| Time limit to claim | 6 months from the date your job ends |
The weekly cap and maximum apply to redundancies from 6 April 2026. They are lower for earlier redundancies.
Is redundancy pay taxable?
You do not usually pay tax on the first combined £30,000 of statutory redundancy pay, additional or enhanced redundancy pay and non-cash benefits. You pay tax on any amount over the combined £30,000. Unpaid wages, holiday pay and bonuses are always taxed. Pay for notice you do not work (pay in lieu of notice) is taxed up to what you would have earned in the notice period.
Check what holiday you are owed with the holiday pay calculator.
Payment in lieu of notice
If you are paid instead of working your notice, the date used for the calculation moves forward by the statutory notice period. This can add a year to your service. Acas gives this example: 8 years and 11 months of service gives 8 weeks' statutory notice, and adding those 8 weeks makes it 9 years and 1 month, so you are paid for 9 years.
How long you have to claim
You have 6 months from the date your job ends.
